My heart: A oneshot by Skadrium
Disclaimer: I do not own Digimon.
Hikari woke up to the soft beating sounds of a heart monitor. She jerked up as she realized her location. She was in a hospital bed. She saw a blurry face looking in her direction. She immediately realized that the blurry ball of hair was Taichi, who had a very grave look on his face.
"Hikari! You're finally awake! I'm so glad you're okay!" The grave look from Taichi's face was fading, but she could tell something was wrong, that something was different.
"Why do you say that like it's something special? Why am I in a hospital?" Hikari was confused about many things, but she decided to take it slower because of the pained look on his face that was steadily re-emerging.
"You've been in a coma for three months," Taichi said quietly.
"What? What happened? I can't remember! Why am I-" She was interrupted by Taichi holding out a neatly folded piece of paper.
"Just... read the note." Hikari took the note out of his hand and started to read it.
Dear Hikari-
The feeling I felt was indescribable when I saw you lying in that hospital bed, looking so weak and helpless. There was nothing I could do about it. It broke my heart every day that I came to visit you. I love you. I always have. So when I heard you could be saved with an immediate heart transplant, I signed up as a donor. At first Yamato and Taichi argued against it vigorously, but I insisted that I do it. Taichi offered to do it, but I insisted anyway. I'm sure you noticed the scars on my arms. Seeing your smile every day was enough to convince me that life was worth living. But then I saw you, lying helplessly in a coma. You talk a lot in your sleep. Some of the random things you said were enough to give me hope that I would see your face smiling at me again eventually. And I'm sure I will someday. Until then, just remember that I love you. I gladly gave you my heart, because in reality it already belonged to you. Thanks for letting my life be full of love in your company.
Love,
Takeru
Hikari tried to force words out, to cry, to do anything, but nothing would come out. She had never known Takeru loved her. She had never known that she meant that much to her. She had never realized until now how much he had meant to her. And now that she had, she would never see him again. She felt so empty, so worthless without him. She would never see him again. Those words echoed through her head. She would never feel complete again. Because Takeru held her heart too, and now it was gone. She only wished she had realized it sooner. Her heart was gone now.
