This is just a random Avatar one-shot, I was putting in my contacts this morning and it just hit me. Many thanks to midnight-Mustang, your story inspired me.

Third person POV

He wasn't going to make it, he was too weak. Aang laid there dying after he beat the Fire Lord. He knew he was going, he could feel it, so he quickly decided what was best.

His equals and closest friends were gathered around him as he was on the ground, Toph, Sukie, Zuko, Sokka, and Katara. Boy was he going to miss her.

"Sokka, Katara, you two are in charge of all the water tribes. Toph, you and your family will rule the Earth Kingdom. Zuko, you must now be the Fire Lord, be a good one so I don't have to whoop your butt in my next life." He said with a scratchy voice.

"The world is going to enter a new era of peace with all of you running it, I'm sure." They were all crying now.

"Can I have a moment with Katara, please."

The others left.

"Ka-" He started.

"No. You're not going to die, Aang."

"Katara, I have to go. But remember, I'll be back. And if it's the last thing I ever do in all my lives, I will remember you, I swear I will."

"But," Tears were flowing freely from both of them now, "You can't, you'll be a new person, you won't remember me." Her head was down.

With some of his last strength he lifted her chin. "Katara," His voice was one of determination. "I will remember you. But you must do something for me."

"W-what?"

"I'm going to spread out the last of my energy to create new airbenders. You have to promise you'll find them for me, in five years, search for toddlers with airbending abilities. Take them to the southern air temple and train them, you'll know what to do."

"Aang?"

"Yes?"

"I love you."

"I know," he smiled, "I love you too."

And with that he started to glow, it got brighter until Katara had to look away. When she looked back, he was gone.

Five years passed and Katara went around the world, to all the nations finding toddlers with airbending abilities. She took them to the southern air temple and trained them. After a few years, she left. The older kids with the most expirence taught the younger ones, but she had to go.

Ten years ago, she had made a promise to Aang, but unbeknown to him, she had made him another, silent promise. She had promised that she would find him.

She knew that he would be born as a waterbender this time, and being the ruler of the waterbenders made it easy to go to all the tribes and test all the kids from age's five to ten, just to be safe. Every kid she tested that failed, she had felt it wasn't him.

Katara knew she would know when she found him, she just did.

One day, several months later she was at the North Pole searching when a little boy walked in. He was short with hazel eyes and a big smile on his face. She didn't know why but she wanted to keep this boy smiling, she wanted it more than she had wanted anything in a long time.

She told him to sit down and to pick four toys. He did, they were the right ones. His head was bent in concentration; he was studying the toy, when he looked up with a confused look on his face, as if he was trying to remember something. Suddenly that look was gone, replaced with a look of understanding and joy.

She started to cry, tears slowly falling down her cheeks as he said, "Katara, what took you so long?"

They both started crying as they embraced, she took in his sent, trying to believe that she had finally found him, that he was finally back.

Well, there you have it! I hope you liked it, if you didn't, keep it to yourself.
