Possible reasons why the Laiquendi never took another king, after Denethor was killed in the First Battle of Beleriand. He was slain on the hill of Amon Ereb.
Our King is dead.
Denethor, son of Lenwe, is dead.
It was for a new life, for safety from the Orcs that we came over the Hithaeglir, over those mountains we once were terrified of. We traveled slowly across Eriador, and then braved the Ered Luin. Friends and family were killed along the way, but we noticed that less and less Orcs were appearing, the further we went west.
And the times we nearly gave up. Denethor had encouraged us, even after his father had been killed by Orcs. He had lifted our spirits, with tales of what he had heard resided on the other side of the mountains. When we finally crossed the mountains, we gazed in wonder at Beleriand.
We resided in Ossiriand, which, with its seven rivers, reminded us of home, behind the Hithaeglir. Denethor had chosen the land, and we all agreed with his decision.
And now he is dead.
Killed by Orcs, Orcs being the reason we fled. Many, many more Orcs than we have seen before at one time. Denethor was wrong in that we were leaving fear behind.
But he was right in his tales. And he, Denethor had the courage to uproot us all from our vale. He had the stamina and optimism that kept us all going. No Vala encouraged us on our walk, it was all Denethor. Who else could have done that? Who else could have brought us to a promised land?
The wisest Elves of our people have considered taking another King. They thought about different Elves who could possibly take on the burden. But the rest of us did not want a new King. We mourn Denethor too much for another King to take his place.
And so we will never take another King.
Hope you liked it!
