I unwrapped the piece of bubblegum in my hand while watching my friend (Sally) ride on her bike around the street in between the houses. It was summer vacation before sixth grade and we were bored.

"What are you doing, Sam!" She called after me while I pushed the gum wrapper into my pocket.

"Nothing," I responded.

"Why don't you just throw the wrapper on the ground? Nobody will care."

"I can't litter!"

"Sweetie!" Sally's mom shouted from the doorway. "Come inside and put on different clothes. You're still in your pajamas."

Sally rolled her eyes and drove more into the street. "It's Summer, Mom. Relax, only Sam sees-"

"What is that?" I asked as I heard shuffling come from a bush near the house.

We all looked at it until I heard Sally fall on the ground, off her bike. She cried out while looking all scrapped up.

"Sweetie, are you okay?" Sally's mom asked, walking away from the bushes.

"I am-" Sally then let out a piercing scream as I car ran over her lying down body. It had to be going at least twice the speed limit of this small neighborhood.

Her mother and I screamed too as she went to grab her daughter's bloody body. I had to look away. It was disgusting, the fluids and body parts coming out of her and the idea she was my best friend.

I felt like I was going to puke when all of a sudden, I saw blu lights flash and Sally was riding in her bike again.
