"Hi." Elizabeta smiled.

"Hello." Maddie spoke up nervously as this was her boyfriend's best friend, who had never spoken to her before.

"I just figured that you should know that I love Gilbert." Eli told her, and Maddie's stomach dropped as she realized that Elizabeta had love him all this time.

"Okay?" She murmured almost shyly in response.

"Who do you think he will choose?" Elizabeta spoke softly, strangely enough she didn't sound jealous nor prideful at all that the answer was Elizabeta of course.

Maddie felt her world capsize around her being as she realized that Eliza was safe and that the two friends must have been close for such a long time that the thought of the two getting together did not seem that outlandish at all.

Maddie stared over at the two of them when she saw them ages later, long after Gil and Maddie had broken up.

Elizabeta laughed at something that Gilbert had said, and it was easy to see how beautiful she was.

Maddie knew that Elizabeta hadn't made a move on Gilbert while they had dated, but still the pain was there though in time it would be made faint.

Maddie sighed, hating that she felt that pinprick of pain in her chest; she didn't have the will to be jealous.

Madeline knew that Elizabeta was being honest when she'd told her that he'd end up with her though she hadn't been bitter when Maddie was dating him.

She sat down.

"You're so sweet and beautiful though you're not quite the girl that he loves." Elizabeta had smiled at her as she'd told her on a different day before Maddie and Gil had broken up.

Madeline couldn't find the words then or now to answer her though she'd sensed the truth to that statement.

She'd watched Elizabeta that had moved so naturally to sit comfortably beside her.

Maddie knew that they had to have millions of 'just friend's firsts until just friends didn't fit anymore.

She sighed, wishing that she could have what Eli had, a best friend turned boyfriend to know her better than anyone else.

At least, Elizabeta had never really rubbed it in her face, just told her the truth, warned her.

Maddie wondered how many years of memories they had together and how that love must have clung to them.

She put on her bravest smile and wished them luck as Eli would have in her situation though did not step close enough for them to see her.

She hoped that Gil and Elizabeta will be together forever as they both deserved it even though in some ways, it hurt her heart.
