She was staring at the paper, and began to cry, he was dead. Her love, her happiness, her air, her Joseph, was dead. Joseph was in the army; and was Miley fiancée despite the fact that Nick—Joe's brother—was madly in love with her. As she set the letter down, her phone rang; it was Nick, she wondered if he knew that Joe was dead. She pressed the talk button, trying to contain her emotions "hello?"
"Hey smiley, its shnickerz, how are you"
"he's gone" she cried.
"what? Who's gone Smiley?"
"Joe, he was… shot"
Nick felt the tears pour down his cheeks as he grabbed his jacket "I'll be right over Smiley". He hung up his phone and raced over to Mileys house.

When he got there, Nick was trying to hide that he had been crying; miley opened the door and he pulled her into a hug.
"why?" Miley cried.

Nick scooped Miley up into his arms and carried her to the couch. He softy moved the stray hairs from her face and she hugged him. She cried in his arms for hours until she had no tears left.
"Smiley, do you want me to stay with you tonight?"
Miley nodded as he picked her up, she thought about debating; but instead; she held onto him… she started to think; how safe she felt in his arms. She had a flashback of when they were fifteen.

FLASHBACK

Miley-[spinning around, laughing]
Nick – [picks her up]
Miley – what are you doing?
Nick - [kisses her]

Miley smiled, that had been 10 years ago; were her feeling returning, wait! What was she thinking her FIANCEE, his BROTHER just DIED; and she was thinking about falling in love with him again? She felt like a terrible person.

Nick tucked her in and started to make his way to the guest room

"wait! Nick"
"Yeah?"
"do you think—you could—maybe—stay in here? With me?"
Nick smiled, he knew that Miley needed someone, and he was willing to be that someone. He just forgot about on detail, he talked in his sleep. Half way in the night; Nicks curse stroke.
"NO!" nick screamed.
Miley shot up to see he was talking in his sleep; she knew it wasn't right to, but she listened in anyways.

"I can't let you marry her Joe! WHY NOT?! Because you know that I've been in love with her for 15 years! You are HEARTLESS"

That was all Miley needed to hear, she layed back down; and pretended to have a nightmare. She screamed and begun to too toss and turn, hoping to wake Nick up. It worked.

"Whats wrong smiley?" Nick said, ""Waking her up"".
"I-I, I don't know Nick" she started to cry. "You talk in your sleep"
"Shit!" nick said, knowing she must've heard him.
"I don't know what to do; was he really just marrying me, to hurt you?" she asked, as tears streamed down her face.
"I'm sorry" he said "I should've told you; but would you of believed me? I didn't feel like explaining why he would do that to hurt me"
Miley wanted to hear those three words from Nick while he was awake, "Wait, why would he?" she played dumb.
Nick suddenly became nervous "maybe we should talk about this in the morning"
Miley smiled "or maybe you could kiss me, because you say WAY too much in your sleep"
Nick leaned in and kissed her passionately as Miley kissed him back; she knew why she had that flashback. It was to show her who she truly loved.
Joes spirit was watching them; he sighed and spoke [they could hear him]" I am so sorry; I can see how much you love each other; you will be much happier with him than you could've ever been with me."
Miley was the first to speak "thank you, Joe"
Joe replied with "I am truly sorry" and faded away.
