Ever since I was a young boy the idea of space travel had always captured my imagination. The idea of me piloting a space fighter, captaining a battle cruiser, or even the sitting on a capital ship and holding the rank of sectoral admiral absolutely enthralled me. However, early into my childhood this dream seemed to be ripped from me, as my family had moved to the Near 3kpc Arm.
When we had first moved there I was deeply saddened by the sudden change in home. Again things had changed for me; after around two years my fur had changed color from the normal golden-yellow of the Renamon species to a shade of black dark as space itself and my eyes had shifted from sapphire blue to cyan. Why my body had changed so dramatically was, at least by my doctor's understanding, from my high intolerance for the vast amounts of gamma and radiation produced by the galactic core. This was of course resolved with medical therapy, but my body never changed back. For some reason the white fur on my belly, the ends of ears, arms and legs didn't change, however, that was the one thing I didn't dislike, for it helped me to remember that I truly was a Renamon despite the constant teasing of other children. I was often called a "mutation" or "walking tumor" as well as beat up.
By the time I reached the adult age of eighteen I had already had my fair share of run-in with the authorities due to frequent fights with those who believed I was there punching bag. I mean not to boast, but I almost always outsmarted and outran them… The police that is, I never backed down from a fight. These many traits had caught the attention of local military officials.
By the time I had reached the age of twenty one I had already enlisted in the federal navy. I skyrocketed through the ranks and eventually was placed as captain of the Corsair, a battle cruiser modified for deep space explorations.
I had come to know my crew very well. Over time we became less of a crew, and more of a family. We had discovered many planets and systems harboring many forms of life. We had seen the most beautiful of planets, untouched and unseen by colonists. No matter how much we discovered and explored there was always more to be discovered as if it were waiting for us.
