"Yes, we've left her. No, she's gone back in." Rita spoke, trying to talk to the person on the other end of the phone, "I'm off to sleep this off! See you tomorrow." She finished the conversation, hanging up as she jumped into the waiting taxi with Robyn and Greta.
It was fifteen minutes before the familiar figure walked into the club, for 3am the club was still packed with people, most of whom were drunk. Scanning the room for the person they were here to see, they noticed Zoe in one corner. Her arms moved less than gracefully as she tried to dance in her drunken state, the man next to her laughing as he passed her another drink, while he himself appeared to be having soft drinks. Zoe appeared to move closer to the man next to her, which prompted the familiar figure to intervene.
"Zoe? What are you doing?"
"Tess! Come and sit down! I'm just having drinks with Max...wait no! Matt!"
"Are you sure it's just drinks?" Tess asked suspiciously.
"Yep." Zoe replied, before leaning forward and whispering loudly. "I think he fancies me though."
"Yeah, me too." Tess mumbled, knowing that if she hadn't have intervened that the night would have ended very differently. "Well I think it's time you said goodbye to your friend Zoe, after all, you're getting married in a few hours."
"I love Max you know." Zoe giggled as she placed her arm around Tess's shoulder.
"I know you do."
"Greta welcomed me to the family. She gave me some wedding rings." Zoe shouted over the music, her hand reached down to her bag where she felt around for the box that Greta had given her earlier in the night. "I've lost them."
"They're on the table, I was showing..."
"You stay here, I'll get them. Don't move." Tess ordered a very drunk Zoe as they got outside the club. Zoe grabbed her phone as she waited for Tess, the picture of herself and Max immediately lit up, making her smile slightly. Tomorrow she was going to marry the love of her life, she was going to become Mrs Walker and she couldn't wait.
"That's my fiancé." She said to strangers walking by as she showed them the picture, one of the few appropriate pictures she had of the two of them.
"Zoe, I got them. We need to be getting back to your flat." Tess said as she appeared from the club carrying the box which held the wedding rings. "You're going to be suffering in the morning."
"Why are you back?" Zoe asked as they climbed into the back of a taxi.
"I could hardly miss my best friend's wedding, could I? Anyway, who else would be your maid of honour?!" Tess laughed.
"But you moved to Leeds, you sent me a video earlier." Zoe protested.
"I filmed that video last week and sent it earlier to put you off the trail, sadly I got stuck in bad traffic and missed most of your hen party, but I'm here now." Tess explained as the cab pulled up outside Zoe's apartment block.
"It's weird when Max isn't home." Zoe moaned as she walked into her flat, Max's stuff was all around and yet her fiancé was missing.
"But he'll be back in a matter of hours and you'll be Mr and Mrs Walker." Tess reminded her.
"I'm actually getting married." Zoe thought out loud. "I never thought I would, we're going to be happy ever after like in fairy tales." Zoe drunkenly spoke.
"Every couple had bad patches but there's no reason why you won't get your happy ending."
"I have a voicemail from Max!" Zoe exclaimed excitedly, immediately pressing play.
"I love you Mrs Walker to be." The voicemail ended.
"You're lucky to have him Zoe, don't take him for granted and don't lose him. He's the best thing that ever happened to you, we can all tell." Tess reminded her.
"I know, I'm not planning to lose him. I love him just as much as he loves me." Zoe replied, as she drank several glasses of water in an attempt to sober herself up a little. "Tomorrow is going to be the best day of my life."
