And yet another Song Challenge-story, this time inspired by It must have been love by Roxette. I actually had a lot of fun writing this short thing!
Warnings: M/M-relationship, a Lalli that's a little OOC woops, probably some grammatical errors because I still can't English.
Enjoy
Emil woke up. The room was silent, empty, and he rolled to his side, place a hand on the empty space next to him in the bed. It was cold now, but when he closed his eyes he could still remember the warmth of the person who had shared his bed. Emil could still remember his touch, his soft lips. The gentle way he whispered Emil's name.
"Lalli", Emil whispered, tried to imitate the other's gentleness.
There was no answer. Emil hadn't expected one. He was alone again, just like he had been before he met Lalli. Carefully he placed his head on Lalli's pillow, afraid that any sudden movement would hunt away any lingering memories. The pillow still smelled of Lalli. Emil took a shaky breath. He never imagined that the end would be so quiet. There had been no screaming, nothing. Just Lalli walking out while Emil was sleeping. No explanation.
If it's over, it's over, Emil thought. Nothing to do about it.
Lalli had never liked drama. Either things could be solved and then he solved them, or they couldn't and then there was no use worrying. It was better to move on. But how would Emil be able to move on from the only love he had ever experienced? He buried his face in the pillow, bit his lip. Maybe he could try to find Lalli, covince him to come back or at least explain.
No. No, that wouldn't be right. Lalli had never hurt him and trying to hurt Lalli would be a bad way to return that.
"Emil?"
Emil's body shook as the ghost of Lalli's voice past his mind. Would he ever forget that voice? Did he want to? He didn't know what would hurt the most.
Fingers pulled through his hair, another memory he would never be able to forget, and tears filled his eyes when he let himself fall into the memories.
"Are you being a drama queen again?"
Fragile hands caressed his cheek and he sniffled, tried drying his tears, but new ones replaced them. True love. Lalli had been his true love. With him everything had been good, perfect, awesome and now he only had the memories.
"Do we have to go through this every night?"
The mattress swayed, thin arms pulled him closer and he could hear the soft beating of a heart as his head was placed on the other's chest. A hand dried his tears, played with his hair and Emil pressed closer. It smelled of Lalli and Emil opened his eyes again. Lalli smiled at him.
"Welcome back to reality", he placed a kiss on Emil's forehead.
"Lalli..." Emil whispered.
He blinked away the remaining tears, tried to focus his eyes on the person next to him, tried to get the mist out of his mind.
"Lalli!" He embraced the other, held him close. "I thought you had left me."
"Again", Lalli added and patted Emil's back. "Even though I've promised I won't."
"You weren't here..."
"Night is my awake-time, you know that. I just had a sandwich."
"You could have woken me up."
"You need your beauty sleep."
Lalli ruffled Emil's hair and Emil puffed his cheeks, sat up and fixed his hair. Lalli smiled and pulled him back down again, placed his head on Emil's chest.
"Go back to sleep. I won't leave again."
Emil put his arm around Lalli, pulled the cover over them and closed his eyes again.
"I love you."
"I love you too. Stop worrying so much."
"I'll try."
Emil smiled. True love. Lalli was his true love, his soulmate, his best friend. The one who made life perfect. It would never end with a silent, empty room in the middle of the night.
