Flawless-imperfection-xx: umm so you may have noticed I've changed screen names and deleted old stories, mainly because I get tired of writing them and I really look back on old work and see it as garbage. So I promise I'll finish this story unlike the other ones, but as of now I don't really have that many ideas and I didn't really know whether I wanted it to be 1st person or whatnot so ermm here goes. Review I beg of you, I'm so stuck right now. Constructive criticism is welcome and appreciated. Here goes… gulp

Disclaimer: don't own avatar, don't plan on it anytime soon either.

Chapter one: I Promise

"Mom? Mom, where are you?!"

"You won't be able to find her Zuzu..." Zuko woke up panting; he had broken into a cold sweat. Just then a gentle reassuring voice came from the hallway as an old man walked into his bedroom.

"Nephew, you were yelling in your sleep. I'm sure a nice cup of tea would make you feel much better." Zuko nodded and followed his uncle into the kitchen and sat down at the table.

"Be careful, it is still very hot, it may burn you." Iroh had just poured each of them a steaming cup of jasmine tea.

"It may burn me…" Zuko whispered as he ran his fingers over his scar and remembered the day he begged his father for mercy. Iroh took a sip of tea.

"Is something bothering you nephew?" Zuko just continued to starring at his tea. Wondering if his father had ever cared about him to begin with, it seemed his father only cared for Azula and how his mother was the only one who cared about him. Oh how he longed to see his mother again even though he knew it wasn't going to happen.

"Uncle, even though we're now in Ba Sing Se and we have new lives… I can't forget about what happened to… my mother…" Iroh was very sympathetic to his nephew's position, as he too had lost a loved one and longed to see his son everyday since he was fire lord.

"Zuko, you must understand you cannot force yourself to forget these things. It's completely acceptable to allow ones self to feel sadness, but you must not live in the past and let it conquer you. Just think, what would Ursa want for you? Would she want her son to be doomed to a life of chasing the avatar forever?"

"She…" there was a long pause before Zuko continued. "Her last words to me were 'everything I've done, I've done to protect you and no matter how things change never forget who you are'… I am prince Zuko, I am … was next in line for the thrown…"

"Zuko, believe me, your mother would have never wanted this for you, she just wants you to be happy, she's looking down on you right now. Don't disappoint her." Zuko just stood up and tucked his chair in.

"Thank you uncle. The tea was delicious." He started walking to his room as he smiled to himself and whispered "Mom if you can hear me, I promise I won't let you down."

Iroh was still sitting in the kitchen sipping his tea, and thinking to himself. "Zuko, if only you knew how happy I am I still have you… my nephew."

Flawless-imperfection-xx: okay, so that was a fairly short chapter kinda cheesy I just needed some way to start \ and I felt it would be best to keep it in well the past ex. No TV or high school etc., and I'm flat out of ideas… so review, I'd love suggestions and any leads on where you want the story to go, I don't know which girl I'll make him go with later, Mai, Katara, or Jin so you can help me pick that just review I'll love you if you do P
