-Chapter 1 -
I honestly think it would be an improvement from my current situation to be reaped. Never the less I continue my journey to the town square. Not but a few minutes later I'm being checked in by the peacekeepers. Every year it's a pinprick of blood and looming death. Nothing unusual. I file my way into the section marked for '17 year old females' and take my place to the inner edge of the section. For the past six years this has been my place. Mainly because I've developed a quick escape route after the reaping is over. My dad thinks we should bond afterwards, every year that I gave in the result was always the same… blood on the floor, alcohol on the table and me running out to the apothecary shop for treatment. Whether it's something broken or a new scar to develop I end up there every reaping day… but let's not forget the other 365 days that are in-between.
Nevertheless I look up and see Margery Macent (our district escort) give her stupid speech and play the video reminding us about the punishment our ancestors brought upon us. She walks over to the massive glass bowl on the right side of the stage and dips her skeletal little fingers in. Hundreds of names in that bowl and the one she pulls out belonged to "Maverick Malloy"… Only the best looking guy in all of district four. But despite his good looks he has a reputation for having a bad temper. He walks up onto the stage stoic as ever and takes his place next to Margery. Margery walks over to the left side of the stage and picks out the female tribute's name... "M Cartier", Great, just what I need.
I decide to be stoic as well and accept my fate as I walk up to the stage. I need to figure out how I 'm going to be for the remainder of the games. Now as we flank either side of Margery she says to the crowd "Before we forget make sure to watch tonight as your quell 'theme' is selected" With that we file off stage and into the justice building for final goodbyes. I know exactly who'll show for me but I can guarantee that if my father shows up, it won't be good… for anyone.
