Katniss and Peeta

KPOV

I wake up suddenly to the sound of Prim screaming.

"What's wrong little duck?" I say

"I had a terrible nightmare that I was chosen for the Hunger Games." Prim says

"Oh, Prim don't worry, your name has only been in there once, you're not going to be chosen trust me." I say but I still worry, they will choose the tributes in 2 weeks, one girl and one boy. I tell Prim to go back to sleep, and morning soon arrives. I make a braid out of my hair and head downstairs.

"Ready for school Prim?" I ask

"Yes let me just grab an apple." Prim says and we walk out the door while saying good-bye to our mother. We walk past the meadow and see Gale and Rory waiting for us.

"Hey, Gale!" I say

"What's up Catnip? Come on let's get to school." Gale says and we walk to school.

I see something from the corner of my eye and see the baker's son, Peeta Mellark. He looks at me and smiles. I wonder Why is he looking at me does he remember when he threw me bread on that rainy day? I forget about it and keep walking; I say good-bye to Gale and Prim and head for Science class. Madge is in this class and I search the room looking for Madge and I spot her. She waves for me to sit next to her and I say "Sure." I look up at the board and see that it says Partner Project. I'm excited because I usually do really well on partner projects. Mrs. Sense says that this time she will choose the partners because last time we chose our partners 50% of the students barely did any work. I did, I paired up with Madge, and we got an A on it. Mrs. Sense starts pairing people up from her clip board and I hear my name.

"Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark." Mrs. Sense says and Madge mouths the word "Good Luck." We have to sit next to our partners for the rest of the month, I hear Madge's name come up.

"Madge Undersee and Jenna Brinks." Mrs. Sense says and continues with the pairing. I stare at the floor, tapping my finger on the table thinking why I am paired up with Peeta, we hardly know each other.

Peeta breaks the ice and finally says "Hi."

"Hi." I reply still staring at the floor.

"I want to thank you for the squirrels you brought yesterday, it's nice to have fresh meat." He says

"Yeah, no problem." I say remembering when I brought them in, I swear I saw Peeta lurking behind the back door and looking at me.

"So, should we start working on the project now?" he says

"Sure, do you want to work on it after school by the meadow?" I say looking at him up close and finally noticing his beautiful blue eyes and his ashy blonde hair. He's beautiful I say in my mind.

"Katniss? Katniss can you hear me?" Peeta says

"Yeah, of course I am." I say

"Well, you weren't responding when I was talking to you." He says

"Oh, sorry I was spacing out…." I say the bell rings and I say bye to Peeta and leave the room.

I go to my other classes and then lunch where I see Madge, it sit next to her and she asks me "So, what's it like being partners with Peeta Mellark?"

"It's weird, I don't fully know him. We are going to work on the project after school." I say

"Interesting!" Madge says and I just stare at her with a confused look

"Katniss there's something you should know…Peeta…well he has a mega crush on you." Madge says

"WHAT!" I yell and everyone at lunch stares at me, "How can he like me? And how do you know?" I whisper

"I was walking by Peeta and his friends and I heard him say 'I love Katniss, I don't know why, but when I looked at her today I knew she was the love of my life.' Well that's what I heard." Madge says and I find and look at Peeta who is 25 feet away from me, and staring directly at me.
