Masumi, you're an idiot.
How could you have missed how lucky you were? You've known Natsuki-chan longer than any of us. In a lot of ways, you're the first person she's ever met. There must've some point in your travels together when you realized what a wonderful person she is. I can't believe even you're that thick.
So you must know. You must know that underneath the cheery flightiness is a courage that can't be broken. That she not only carries on after the loss of her old life, but finds joy and adventure in her new one.
Yes, you knew, but it didn't change your actions. You always treated her like she was something that needed to be sheltered from the world, dismissed the warmth and light she brought you as silly and stupid. I can't entirely blame you for that, though. It makes sense that an ex-thief, even one well on his way to redemption, would be more comfortable in the dark.
And I'm actually grateful to you. Because if you had realized, you'd probably be watching the sun set into the horizon with her instead of me.
"Are you all right, Sou Sou Souta?" I know I shouldn't smile at her worried expression, but it feels so good to have someone care about someone with my past I can't help it.
"No," I murmur as I kiss her forehead. "Everything's fine."
