'Was it all a dream? Did I make it all up?' Hayate asked himself, still half asleep. He rolled over to find that he wasn't alone. Genma was still fast asleep, and snoring slightly. 'So, it wasn't a dream?' Hayate realized, his stomach suddenly filled with butterflies. He'd been in love with the shinobi for quite some time and was now positive that there could be something between them. He just hoped Genma felt it too.

He attempted to lift his hands up to smooth out his hair but realized that his right hand didn't want to move so easily. He pulled it up and saw that Genmas' fingers would intertwined with his. Suddenly, he felt he face flush, and got some MAJOR butterflies.

Then the happiness he felt was cut short, because he went into one of his infamous coughing attacks. Instinctively, Genma burst up at the first sign of a cough. He always worried about Hayate and his odd respiratory system. He was about to give him the glass of water by the bed, when he noticed that their hands were linked, instantly happy. It was then that Hayate found out that Genma did feel the something for him and that he was ready to explore with him. Since Hayates' relationship with Yugao didn't work out, and Genma hadn't ever been in a serious relationship, there was nothing holding either one back from starting one.

"So, about last night.." Hayate said, knowing that Genma wasn't going to start a conversation about it.

"What about it?" Genma asked, sounding slightly annoyed. Although Hayate knew that he wasn't a very communicative person, he didn't know he'd be that upset.

"Never mind." he finally said, not wanted to upset him further.

"Hayate..." Genma said after a long pause. "I-" He broke off, debating whether to finish his statement. He wanted to, it really looked like it. So, he pushed himself to. "I love you, I've loved you for a long time and I've always been afraid to admit it. You're my best friend and the only one who truly understands me and I love you more then I have ever loved anyone, more then my own life. You're so amazing and everything about you makes my heart flutter."

Hayates' dark eyes started to well up with tears, and finally he cracked, and started crying. (Well, half-crying, half-coughing.)

Genma wrapped his arms around his new love and let him cry into his bare chest. The tears were cold, but he didn't mind.

After Hayate was done and he calmed down, he looked up to see Genma staring at him. Slowly and hesitantly Hayate reached up and pulled Genmas' face down towards his. Genma reached up and placed his hand lightly on Hayates' cheek, as if to say that it was okay. Still, a little hesitant, Hayate kissed Genma. After a while, the kisses grew more passionate. Then, the couple was interrupted with a knock on the door. They each slowly pulled away reluctantly and got up to answer it. They walked down the hallway hand in hand. Hayate wished it could be like that forever.
