Hai! Wow, okay. This is my first story I guess! Let me know what you think, because honestly, I barely know what I'm doing...
Chapter one:
The hot sun beat down onto the four bodies sat in lounge chairs near a big blue rectangle. One redhead in a green one piece, two men in shirts and shorts, and one woman with a perfectly chopped bob, in a yellow bikini.
They'd been soaking in the sun for a few hours, talking and sipping on drinks, one in particular continually requesting refills for them all.
Karen Walker sat up, and took a sip of her martini.
"This is rather fun really!" She exclaimed in her high voice, the others sitting up to join her.
Grace laughed.
"You haven't once gotten in the pool, any of you!" She exclaimed, patting her damp red hair, and combing her fingers through it. Will, who was between her and Karen, laughed outloud.
"We all know Karen is too gin soaked to be able to swim." He smiled softly at her,
"And well, jack is too much of a princess about getting his hair wet, and I just, haven't had the chance!" Jack looked at Will through slit shaped eyes.
"You've had plenty a chance!" He exclaimed,
"I have too. AND MY HAIR IS NOT THE PROBLEM." He paused,
"I'm too busy checking out those lifeguard shaped snacks over there." He winked and gestured. Grace looked over and sighed, but before she could say anything, Jack broke into conversation again.
"They're obviously gay Grace." He said
"But then again. You like that don't you" he winked, and Grace lent over to slap him, Will holding her back.
"Grace calm down!" he exclaimed, Karen nodding in agreement,
"I'll go in the pool if it bothers everyone that much!"
With that, he swiftly pulled off his tight black shirt, and brushed a hand across his shorts, which were crumpled after many years of disuse.
Karen gasped silently. Since when did Will look that... dare she say... good?
Will threw his shirt on the lounger, and walked over to the edge of the pool.
"I'm not going in alone!" He exclaimed, looking at the others.
"Karen, come and sit by the edge? Bring your drink. It doesn't matter."
Karen laughed him off
"You're kidding."
Will came back over, and grabbed her by one hand, and put her drink in the other. He handed it to her, and her pale skin glimmered in the sun. She laughed, clearly embarrassed, and as Will pulled her to the pool, his hand in hers, she smiled. His hands were warm, and he glowed in the sharp light. He let go of her hand, and let her place herself delicately by the poolside, holding her drink carefully, as not to spill a drop. The olives bobbed up and down, and Will suddenly felt strange. He felt something, deep in his chest, and it worried him- there was something eating away at him, and when he realized what it was, he stopped still. Karen noticed.
"If you're not getting in, I'll quite happily go back to my chair!" Will laughed good naturedly, and slid into the crystal water. He did a few quick lengths, and swam back to Karen.
"This water is amazing!" He exclaimed, reaching out to Karen,
"You should come in!"
She laughed.
"Oh honey! No! Why would I do that?" She gestured to the water, her rings glinting, her skin set off to perfection,
"I hate water!"
All of a sudden, Will grabbed her hand, and pulled her quickly into the pool with a splash. Karen let out a little yelp.
"WILMA TRUMAN!" She exclaimed, bobbing on her tiptoes in the water, with a shocked expression on her face, her hair still perfect, and her makeup flawless.
Jack laughed from the poolside,
"I got it all on video!"
Karen turned to face him,
"Really honey?" She grimaced.
Will grabbed the martini that Karen had abandoned on the poolside, and handed it to her. She took it gracefully, and much to her surprise, Will took her up in his arms, and walked with her like that to a shallower area of the water. She linked her arms round his neck, and he laughed gently. She did that cute little sideways smile at him, and slid out of his arms to stand, seemingly small at 5'4" compared to his nearly 6 foot. She took a sip from her glass once more, and lifted herself onto the poolside, dangling her legs into the water. Will was in awe at her for some unknown reason; the sun was directly behind her, and it outlined her like a halo. It bounced off her skin, which in turn made her hazel eyes look brighter, and her hair look even glossier. Her bikini was a softer yellow now that it was damp, and she really was perfect. Will shook these thoughts from his head- he was gay, wasn't he?
He quickly got out the pool, water beading off of his skin, and grabbed a white towel from a stack near the bar. He walked swiftly back over to Karen, and slowly wrapped it round her shoulders, before sitting down next to her, and wrapping a towel round himself. She smiled gratefully at him.
"Thanks honey." She said softly.
The sun had begun to set, and soft shadows were cast all around. When Will turned to check on Grace and Jack, they were both sleeping on their loungers, happy in the warm evening.
Will turned back to Karen, and noticed she was shivering slightly. He grimaced, and not really thinking, wrapped his arm around Karen, and drew her close to him.
Karen looked up at him, one eyebrow raised.
"I'm sorry." Said Will, beginning to draw away,
"I wasn't thinking- you were shivering."
He nearly pulled his arm away, but Karen put her arm up, and held his arm round her. She put her hand inside his, and he squeezed it. She closed her eyes, and leaned into his embrace, smiling up at him. He smiled back down at her, both of them sitting there in silence, as the sun set around them. She really was beautiful, he thought, questioning himself.
Karen opened her eyes once more, and Will drank in their hazel colour. The longer he stared into them, the more glossy they got, the more glossy and beautiful they got, the more he felt certain of himself.
He looked over Karen's heart shaped face, and drank in her every feature, from her dimples cheeks, to her lightly blushing cheeks, and her rose red lips, painted the softest colour.
He took a deep breath, and once Karen closed her eyes once more, learnt down, and pecked her on the lips.
She opened her eyes in surprise.
"Was that you Wilma?" She asked, one eyebrow raised, and still leaning into him.
He shook his head, the simplest lie.
"Why would it be?" He himself closed his eyes, and tilted his head to one side, enjoying the last rays of sun on his cheeks.
Karen laughed. She knew it had been Truman, she wasn't stupid. She laughed inside herself, and plucking up her gin soaked courage, raised herself slightly, and kissed Will softly upon the cheek, surprised that her lipstick didn't leave a mark. He rolled his head over to her, and looked her in the eyes with a smirk dancing across his face, his chest still bare, his hair slightly damp.
Will took his hand that Karen wasn't clasping onto, and cupped her face with it. She smiled up at him, and he leant down to kiss her, all the while with a smile on his face. Their lips met, and they kissed. Short and soft at first, but they quickly became more needy, and Karen sighed. Will pulled away.
"Are you okay Kare?" He asked, no sarcasm, no nothing, just caring.
Karen nodded.
"Oh honey." She said in a mere whisper.
"Are you sure you're gay?"
Will shook his head,
"Who knows anymore." With that Karen laughed, and Will pushed her into the pool once again. She quickly took him by the hand, and pulled him in too, and in laughter and happiness, they kissed tenderly again, before Will swept Karen up, and wrapped her in a towel once again, and held her close, never wanting to let her go.
She looked up at him as the last rays of sun dipped below the horizon.
"Wilma Truman..." she murmured.
"Who'd have thought."
He lent over to kiss her on the lips again.
"No one." He said, as he held her.
"No one at all."
The next morning Karen awoke with a start, unsure of when or where she'd fallen aslumber. She clocked the scratchy netting on her still bare back, the water lapping near her feet, and finally, the protective arm wrapped around her. Her best guess was that she'd fallen asleep on her lounger by the poolside, yet she wasn't alone. She turned slightly, and looked up into Will's open eyes. He'd somehow squeezed in next to her on the netted nylon, and her head had been resting on his broad shoulder the whole night.
Will smiled, his eyes smiling but tired.
"Sleep well?" he asked, his voice slightly raspy, his accent like music.
Karen nodded, surprised at how well she had slept. For the first time in a while, she felt extremely well rested, even if she'd fallen asleep in a bikini on a chair, next to a man who she now was unsure of anything about him.
"Did you sleep well?" She smiled at him, and blinked the sleep out of her eyes. Will chuckled softly,
"I didn't sleep." Karen looked away from him, feeling bad about not letting him get any sleep. Will clocked this quickly, and took the hand that was resting atop her blanket.
"Grace and Jack went home- I'm not having no one keep you safe." Karen looked back at him. What a gentleman.
Will turned slightly so he could see Karen better. She was still so cute and sleepy, her hair not quite straight, and her voice was still quiet and soft- not quite the woman who usually criticized his every move.
Karen moved a little closer, and rested her head on Will's warm chest. Now she was awake, she was a little cold, and Will noted this. It scared him, how quickly he noticed things about Karen: he'd never even noticed anything that quickly about Michael, or anyone he'd been with. He smiled down at her, honored that she trusted him. It reminded him of that dance he'd gone to with her in '02. When she told him that she could count on him.
Will went about getting up, and grabbed his jacket from his bag on the lounger next to him. He tucked it round Kare, and she looked at him out the side of her eyes, before snuggling down further and watching the sun rise. Will went down to the pool, and swam a few more lengths, enjoying the feel of the cool water on his skin, and checking over to Karen every so often, who was now sleeping peacefully again.
He climbed out the water, wrapped a soft towel around himself, and checked his watch. It was already ten in the morning, and it was a reassuring thing for him to have seen Karen sleep. She'd had shadows under her eyes recently, and against her pale skin, they stuck out like a sore thumb. As he went back over to her, he was happy to see that they'd disappeared, and she awoke, stretched and yawned cutely when she saw him coming.
"Are you hungry?"
asked Will, as he sat down on his lounger and toweled his hair dry, Karen watching him avidly.
"I don't know honey."
She said, her voice still soft with sleep.
She sat up, and ran a hand through her tousled hair. It fell back into place, perfectly straight with a slight curve at the base, exactly how it had been before. Will watched her happily, and bathed in her beauty.
When Karen looked over to him, she caught him staring at her, and before he could turn away and feign boredom, she winked at him.
She unwrapped herself from the blankets, and grabbed the crumpled sundress that lay by her feet; a bright sunflower yellow. She shook it out, and pulled it on over her head, and smoothed her hair once more. The dress, slightly wet from splashes of water that came onto the poolside, fitted her like a glove, and to Will's surprise, she kept his jacket on over the top of it, rolling the sleeves a little, before grabbing the black shirt from by Will's bag and throwing it to him. She smiled as he put it back on, and looked at him, still in surprise of herself. She bit her tongue. She wanted to say something witty, snarky: anything, but her mouth had run out of words. She opened her mouth to speak, but Will, who had now turned back to her, smoothed his shirt, stood up, and promptly kissed her quickly on the lips. She was speechless.
"Oh honey." She whispered.
Will grabbed their bags, and held out a hand to Karen. She took it, and he pulled her up, twirling her around and making her laugh before they continued on their way to the car, his arm back around her again.
