Blessing

Rose Weasley and Scorpius Malfoy were in a very awkward situation. While having their weekly dinner at the Weasley residence, The Burrow, they were both fidgety and anxious about the gravity of what they were about to ask.

Molly and Arthur had started the weekly tradition one year after the War was ended, the day Victoire was born. They knew they would be completely out of the loop with their grandchildren if they didn't force some kind of gathering. Even now that their grandchildren were grown, they still kept it up. Whenever any of the grandchildren entered into a new relationship, their significant other was immediately invited to the dinner. Scorpius Malfoy had been at a weekly dinner at the Weasley house previously seventy-eight times, but he had not been as nervous as he was this seventy-ninth time since the first time.

This was because that night, Scorpius's seventy-ninth dinner at the Burrow, in front of all of Rose's extended family, he was going to officially ask Ron and Hermione for permission to marry Rose. Rose knew that her family didn't particularly like Scorpius at first, but she was desperate for their blessing. And that was why Scorpius was risking being cursed, castrated and killed by asking in front of a good twenty Weasleys, five Potters and a couple Lupins.

Scorpius waited until they had finished dinner and dessert before he broached the subject because he knew Ron would be in a better mood when he had a full stomach. "Uh, sir, Mr. Weasley, sir." Scorpius began, "Can I ask you something?"

"Sure," Ron nodded, "What is it?"

"Well, I said I was going to anyway, no matter what you say tonight but it is really important to Rose that I ask." Scorpius turned to Rose, and she offered him an encouraging smile and gave his hand a squeeze under the table. "I've asked your daughter to marry me, sir, and it's really important to Rose that we have your blessing."

The entire table went silent as all eyes fell on Ron and Hermione. Ron's jaw had dropped immediately and had yet to close back up. Hermione had her napkin over her mouth, whether it was hiding a smile or a frown was unknown to the occupants of the table. Everyone expected Hermione to collect herself first, but to everyone's surprise Ron spoke first.

"You've said yes, Rosie?" Ron asked.

Rose nodded, "I have."

"Then you have our blessing."

Suddenly the table burst back into life, and the evening erupted back into the usual Weasley chaos. Rose leaned over to kiss Scorpius on the cheek. All was well.
