There was always that one dream when Santana was young. To be famous. It had always been her dream, no matter how she got it, people would know her name. As she grew older, she finally realized how she would make that happen. New York. New York was the answer to all of her problems, to all of her dreams. In New York she could finally start her life. She supposed she was alike to Berry in that way. She'd never admit it, but she admired Berry. She was in New York right now, she was happy.
Santana Lopez, however, was not. She was at college, not in the city of her dreams, but in the same state she would most likely be stuck in for a long time. Ohio. Fucking Ohio. She'd been dreaming of going to New York for the past four years of her life, and yet she was stuck in fucking Ohio.
The past year she'd been planning each and every part of this first year of college. She would go to NYU or maybe a community college like CUNY. She'd have her own apartment; she'd find a roommate and an easy waitressing job. It would be hard work but it would be exactly what she wanted. But, as always, it didn't work out. Nothing ever worked out for her. It was too expensive, it was too far, and it was too different. She would be stuck in Ohio for the rest of her life if she didn't do anything differently now.
"Hello?" That usually skin writhing voice of hers was actually welcomed and missed this time.
"Berry, hey."
"Santana? Are you calling me to hurl insults at me, because at least let me sit down before you do." She couldn't help but laugh. Of course Berry would be just as confused with this phone call as she was.
"Cool your Jew tits, Berry. I'll deny this if you ever repeat it, but I actually miss you. Not to mention I'm extremely jealous that you're living my dream in New York. Even if you are using that to live with your roommate who is amazingly gayer than you already are."
"Excuse me, I take that very offensively. I would so win at a gay off against Kurt, and we both know it." A giggle escaped from her lips, and Santana couldn't remember ever actually enjoyably joking around with Rachel Berry. She was going to have to get used to this.
"How's New York? Is it everything you dreamed of and more? Gay men at every street corner sipping their fancy Starbuck's cappuccino's while another idiot in a monkey suit walks to his miserable job."
"Well I don't know if I would explain it exactly like that, but yeah, that about sums it up. I'll have to admit that I miss you too. Besides for Kurt, you were the only one who wanted this as much as I did. It's sad that you didn't make it here."
"Yeah, well, I guess I'm stuck in Ohio for the next four years of my life. Finish college then head up there. God, four years. That sounds miserable. I might as well shrivel up and die while I'm at it."
"Well we have an extra room in our apartment if you want it. We've been looking for a roommate, but I guess no one can handle that much gay in one building."
"And you think that I would be able to handle Sméagol and Casper the gay ghost?"
"It was just a thought. No need to lash out."
"I'll think about it."
And she did.
