Lucky

It was sunset; the sky was painted bold, vibrant citrus colors, and silhouettes of dark, thin clouds seemed to be pasted randomly in the sky. The warm glow enveloped two young Uchihas, who happened to be sitting out on their wooden walkway. Their dark clothing absorbed a lot of warmth, but it was a cool, but not chilly, evening, making it a very comfortable state.

The smaller one sat right beside the other one, swinging his short legs that draped over the edge of the walkway. The obviously older one sat still, also with his legs over the edge, but they were long enough for the feet to reach the ground comfortably. They seemed to be watching the sunset, or the crows squawking in the distance.

"Nii-san?" the smaller one asked. "Can you train with me tomorrow?

"No, Sasuke," the older one replied firmly.

"But why? Please, Itachi-nii?!" Sasuke begged. "You never train with me! Please!"

"You can train alone," Itachi said calmly. "I can't tomorrow. Dad wants me to go with him somewhere."

Sasuke puffed his cheeks out in annoyance. "You've always got something else to do...and it almost always involves Dad..." he said dejectedly.

"I'm sorry," Itachi apologized, and ruffled his younger brother's soft black spikes of hair. He pulled Sasuke in close.

"Nii-san?" the smaller asked again, sounding timid.

"Hm?"

"...you're lucky..." Sasuke said softly, stroking the fabric of his shorts.

Itachi was taken back by the comment, and he showed it by tilting his head in a questioning manner. "What makes you think so?"

"Because..." the little one paused, "because I'm your brother." Sasuke smiled up at Itachi, whose face softened, and began to smile as well.

"Hn," was all he said, and ruffled Sasuke's hair again as he gazed at the red-orange hues in the sky.

"And…also," Sasuke said, "because…you're Dad's favorite, obviously. And because you're the smartest one in your class, and the youngest Uchiha to master the Sharingan…"

Itachi shook his head. "None of those things are important, Sasuke. All you talk is nonsense." He flicked Sasuke's forehead, a regular gesture. "Foolish little brother."

My sister told me that I was lucky, while I was doing the dishes. I asked her why. She said "Cuz I'm your sister!" Aw. Well, then, a few minutes ago she was bawling because we wouldn't let her wear goggles while I washed her hair (I mean, seriously, how the hell are you supposed to wash hair if they're wearing freaking goggles?!) and now, she's whining for me to play with her. She does it all the time. And complains that I never play with her. But I DO. Hn, troublesome… dammit, now she won't shut up... (twitch)

Do I feel lucky now? No. But reviews may help me get through this?
