A MOON'S ECHO

His paws collided with the dry earth, dust rising as he pushed himself faster. With the winds constant billowing through his fur - one thought entered his mind; this was freedom.

No soldiers to train, no never ending moans from the council, no damn fitting for some stuffy uniform. And definitely no pathetic suitors trying to win his princess' hand.

A growl tore through his throat. It was amusing to watch their efforts in trying to woo her - all to no prevail. She would dismiss them with the most simplistic remarks (his favourite had to be when she claimed that one had a poor taste in clothes)

Sometimes, he would sit by her throne, blue eyes glinting with amusement as they took in his form. Some would stand indignant though he could see their discomfort clear in their posture. Others would ask why he was there. Her voice would answer them as he would run a hand along his side affectionately - my protector.

Too right he was her protector. He had witnessed the guards futile attempts, their complete ineptitude. It wasn't a surprised that the castle had succumbed to Zant.

Not only that, but that one time in which he had failed, (a failure which still haunted him even now) she had been physically manipulated; a puppet controlled by dark threads that had seeped into her pallid skin.

He increased his pace, trying to outrun the images tormenting his mind. No. as long as he was by her side, she would never be in harms way again.

The moon came into his view. Its ghostly light beckoning his lupine instincts to keep running. Yet the grand structure before him captured his attention.

She was there.

Even more beautiful than the moon itself. Her dark locks would be caught in the sun - shinning brilliant as if though spun of a deep gold. Her pale pallor that would blush so delicately when he would caress her skin. And her eyes. . . Her beautiful eyes. He would hear the maids sigh as he walked into the room, hear them comment of their lady's eyes lighting up when she gazed upon him. That rare smile gracing her lips.

He looked up, the castle was directly in front of him now - as if by merely thinking of her, his body had took him to where she would be.

It was too easy to pass the guards, (even as a human he had yet to be caught) the black of his coat blending well with the shadows.

Steps slow, he padded into her garden.

Bathed in the shallow light, she looked ethereal - the embodiment of light. Even now he was still mesmerised by her beauty.

Her violet eyes found him, a smile forming as she rose.

"I knew you would come"

Her voice carried to him, its sweet soprano softer than silk.

His eyes shut, feeling her cloak drape around his shoulders, her hands lingering on his bare chest.

Slowly, he gazed upon her, feeling his own mouth rise as he watched the colour grow on her cheeks despite having seen him unclothed many times before.

His mouth touched hers, welcoming her eagerness with his own. Hands locking in her brunette locks, he pulled her closer, aware that the thin night gown was the only barrier between their two bodies.

She kissed him reverently - savouring every moment. Her fingers moved downwards; eliciting a breathy moan that closely resembled a growl.

Reluctantly he pulled back, knowing where this night would end - and not in her gardens.

He gazed into her eyes, finding everything; joy, passion, love . . . Home.

"And I knew you would be waiting."
