"All I'm saying," Sirius concluded as he and Remus started to descend the Stairs towards the dungeons, "is that Snivellus is a malign jerk; he should keep his large nose out of other people's business."

Remus rolled his eyes at his capricious friend; his opinion of everything, except Snape, changed daily. "He's not as ignoble as you think Sirius; for example, he's friends with Lily." He hoped the mention of their friend's long time crush would subdue the boy for now.

"That was almost risible, Remus." Sirius dismissed. "Which house was he sorted into again: Ravenclaw, with all the smarty-pants; Gryffindor, with all the good guys; Slytherin, with all the evil people; or Hufflepuff, with all the good finders? I do believe he went to the evil house."

The two boys walked into the dungeon where they were to complete their detention and found it already occupied; Lily Evans was brewing a potion that was giving off green steam.

"Hello Remus," she greeted, looking up, "Sirius," she added in a temperate tone; Sirius then remembered of their semi-strained relationship.

"Why, hello Lily-Flower," Sirius sauntered over to her, jumped up on the table, and plucked up a shriveled up blob. "What, exactly, are you propagating over here; moreover, what am I holding?"

Lily looked at the thing in his hand, "Looks like a newt's liver." She answered nonchalantly.

"And everything else?"

Lily sighed, "Honestly, the most ingenuous person I've ever met. These are the ingredients for flesh-eating slug repellent: newt livers, the thing in your hand; aconite, the green, bumpy leaves; dragon blood, the green liquid over there; crushed up unicorn horn, the silver white powder; do I have to continue?"

"No," Sirius replied hoping off the table to examine the shelves perched against the wall, "I was merely curious. Can I add this infusion of wormwood?"

"Sirius Black, if you adulterate this potion I will kindly recompense you by hexing you into next week; furthermore, I will not give James the time of day."

"You're thinking about it, then?" Remus injected, striding across the room to sit next to her; indeed, he had half a mind to continue to inculcate on James's behalf.

Lily sighed. "No…yes…no. I don't know. Go away." She glared at Remus and stuck out her tongue.

"It's really not that hard." Sirius supplied over his shoulder from across the room.

"Deciding if you want to contract or not," Lily countered, "is not a hard decision; deciding if you want to date the ex-bane-of-your-existence-who-is-much-better-now is, in fact, a difficult decision. But, enough about my love life; y'all are here to help me with inventory, yes?" She looked around expectantly.

Sirius spun around swiftly, "What?" he exclaimed, "We're serving our detention with you?"
