"No!" Holly cried out.
"There is no stopping me now!" Opal Koboi cackled.
Holly and Artemis were strapped to a long, metal table, and could only watch as electricity surged through bundles of wires that snaked along the ground. And they were all connected to one device.
"Once the laser charges up, you will be helpless to watch as I rip a hole in the fabric of space time!" Koboi taunted.
Suddenly, there was a pleasant ding as a nearby computer monitor announced that the device was ready.
"Yes!" Opal smashed a big, red button next to the console. With that, the machine flashed, and a sparks erupted from inside. With a whine, the device–and all the nearby lights–shut down. Artemis and Holly's electronic bonds snapped open. With lightning reflexes, Holly snatched her neutrino from a nearby chair and pointed it at Opal.
"What?" gasped Opal. "My calculations were flawless!" Then her eyes widened. "Mervall! Descant! I said a Megaohm, resistor, not tera!"
