This was the only thing I could think of with this prompt. ;u; Protective Shadad is best dad!

"This is getting way out of hand."

Normally not one to agree with the blue blur, even Shadow had to admit that a strict line had been crossed the moment the swarm of reporters had surrounded their children at a toy store, scaring them immensely with their flashed photography and loud booming voice that all hoped to override the other to get the newest scoop. It didn't even take a second before he and Sonic had grabbed their respective child and took off without a word, out of sight before anyone could've blinked.

His daughter had ceased her wailing, though still let a few hiccups as her father slowed down to a stop when he and his companion had confirmed that they were away from public eye, much too far for the news teams to catch up to them. Luckily enough West Station Square was severely less crowded than usual, leaving them with a safe cover until they came up with a new plan.

Shadow shushed the toddler, patting her back gently and murmuring words of assurance; while still upset, her small arms around her shoulder had relaxed significantly, indicating that she would be okay. Glaring at the direction from which they came, Shadow had half the mind to go back and send a few Chaos Spears in their direction, especially to that one human woman that had practically shoved the microphone in front of his daughter's face none too gently.

Scarlet Garcia. He recognized the woman from all the times Maria had left the television on the mainstream news station after he came back from work. She was the main news anchor of Station Square Today, that usually reported on the events regarding either him, Sonic, or Silver—though more recently it had expanded to the others, Maria included.

And now his daughter, Shadow growled.

"I knew they'd want to be more aggressive with us, considering we don't really do quick interviews anymore. But...I didn't think they'd go after them like that." Disgust shone in Sonic's emerald eyes, and it was clear that his paternal instincts were also on high alert despite his internal confusion on how to feel about the situation, considering these were also people he strove to protect daily. How could he feel such anger towards them?

But yet...

Sonic shook his head, disappointment edging in his words, "They're just kids, Shadow. They can't even talk yet."

"It doesn't matter the age to them," Shadow answered flatly, though didn't hide his repulsion. Still, a part of him felt responsible for it, and it was obvious that Sonic felt the same way, even if they both didn't say it out loud. Saving the world and becoming famous truly had its drawbacks (even if both hadn't necessarily been looking for it in the first place); and now their children would have to pay for it. "All they care about is getting the first look at our 'personal lives'."

Sonic sighed, frowning. "I know Amy's not going to take it well." His brows furrowed, facing growing serious as he adjusted his grip on his son, who still seemed unsettled by the distressing event. The azure hedgehog looked up at Shadow, who looked equally bristled. "We better start being more careful when we take them out."
