Expectations and Surprises

Lupin would be the first(besides Dumbledore) to meet the new covert agent under the Order's employ. He had to admit to certain expectations about the meeting. When Remus had been told he was to contact the Order's new 'Master of Disguise' he had assumed that he would be snuck up on by a stealthy figure he had failed to notice until too late, and exchange a few brief words before the man vanished into the shadows once more. He certainly did not get what he expected. Remus Lupin wasn't a man to enjoy surprises.

Lupin ran a distracted finger around the rim of his butterbeer bottle, trying to imagine what this disguiser would look like tonight. He had never met a metamorphagus(as far as he knew), and he wondered to what extent they were capable of changing their physiology.

The couple two tables away from the bar started growing increasingly raucous, and after a good deal of shouting the huffy blonde had flung herself into the seat next to Remus where she began to complain loudly about her boyfriend Lou, and how he always stuck his hands where they didn't belong. By the time she began to tell him about the boy's latest acquaintances she had quieted to the point most of the bar was ignoring her, and had returned to their own business.

When everyone had made themselves otherwise occupied, and she had finished a detailed description of a violent brunette and stuffy blonde Ex. Leaning drunkenly against the older man she grinned intoxicat(ed)ingly at him and he was forcibly drawn to take in her rather attractive appearance. However, the smell of fire whiskey on her breath quickly replaced any thoughts along that avenue with revulsion at such tasteless lack of self-control.

"Wotcher, Remus." This voice was distinctively not drunk, and Remus stiffened, taking a second hard look at the girl clinging to his arm. Too late he reached for his wand, and before he got to his pocket the blonde was waving the wooden tool proudly in front of his face. "Just wanted to earn a little respect before Sirius goes off to tell you 'bout me and ruins it." She whispered in his ear, slipping the wand back in his pocket along with a familiarly sealed letter. She stood up unsteadily, although her gaze when she grinned at him flickered into sharp examination before resuming its dulled hue.

"Bye bye ev'er booby." She said loudly, waving one arm wildly at the assembled patrons, some of whom laughed as others scowled. "Nigh' guy persoon" She said , turning to Remus and coming dangerously close to falling over herself in the act. He was turned with his back to her when he felt the slap on his bum a few seconds later, nearly jumping a foot out of his stool as he whirled around to face the back of her unstably retreating figure.

A shocked expression on his face he leaned against the bar, shaking his head in a mixture of confusion and disbelief. No, definitely not what he had expected. But Remus Lupin was beginning to rethink his opinion on surprises.

A/N Just a short scene from the life of Remus Lupin. Sort of a cross between a drabble and a one-shot, and I'm sorry it's so short. This is my first HP fanfic, so please be kind on the OOC. I also ask for brutally honest reviews, and if you read it, please be kind enough to tell me what you think.
