I'm not quite sure where this idea came from... so let's just call this a preview!
"Good morning class," the teacher began.
"Good morning, sensai," the class chorused.
"Now get out our workbooks and start on page 22."
The class did as they were told when the phone rang. The teacher walked away to get it. I was trying to figure out one of the math problems when the teacher looked up.
"Tohru Honda?"
I looked up.
"The principal would like a word with you in his office."
I stood up and walked out of the classroom.
Our principal was very old; so old, in fact, he was the principal when my mom was in this school. I thought that was sort of neat. When I got to the principal's office, he got straight to the point.
"Miss Honda," he said, facing me, "there is no doubt in my mind that you are an extremely smart girl. However, your math grades do not show this."
"I'm sorry," I said, bowing my head, "I'll try to do better."
"I should hope so. Dissmissed."
I stood and bowed. I was turning to the door when I heard the principal mutter under his breath, "I do hope you're a little smarter than your mother was. And that wasn't much."
It took my brain a few seconds to analyze the fact that the principal had just called my mother stupid.
That's when I snapped.
