Adam rode on the Ponderosa watching the birds, and breathed in the
fresh pine air. Everything's so peaceful. He thought as he rode Sport for
a distance, enjoying this time by himself.
His thoughts were disrupted when he heard a scream. Adam stopped his horse and looked around. Again, he heard the scream and pointed Sport in the direction of the scream. *** He spotted a man, holding a gun, a makeshift camp next to the man. He moved, and Adam spotted a person tied to an overhanging and they person backed against a boulder.
Adam got off Sport and looped his reins around a tree branch. He took the leather straps form around his guns. He crept closer until he could hear what the man was saying.
"I told you, bitch, that if you disobey me. I'm goin' to kill you, but I changed my mind, I'll beat you first." The man slapped a young woman. Her face snapped to the otherside, when the man's hand came in contact with the woman's face. Adam could see that she was trying to move away from the man, and Adam could her the woman whimpering. "I thought I told you to shut up." The man growled, raising his hand again.
Adam drew his gun and shot the man. The girl screamed, flinching at the noise. Adam entered the camp, and kicked the shotgun away from the man with a bullet hole in his shoulder. He was moaning deeply, putting a hand over the wound.
Adam hurried over to the girl. "Miss? Miss? Let me help you!"
She looked at him and screamed, "No! No!"
"Miss, here let me untie you." He reached up and began undoing the knots. When Adam had untied her, she crumpled to the ground. He bent down and began stroking her back, softly. "It's alright, I'm Adam. I'll take care of you."
The girl began to cry. Adam sat down next to her and pulled her close. Her small frame began to shake from the force of the tears. The girl wrapped her arms around Adam's neck and held onto him tight.
"It's ok, can you tell me your name?"
"It's...It's...It's Katherine..." she said in between sobs.
"Well, Katherine, everything is going to be ok. Well, come with me to town. We'll have the doctor check you out, and we'll take this man to jail."
She peered up at him, wide-eyed. "Where are we?"
"You're on the Ponderosa and I'll take you to Virginia City."
"Ok." Adam stood up and pulled her up, too. "I see that you don't have a horse, so you can ride with me and we can lay him over his horse. Let me put a bandage on his shoulder and we'll get going. Katherine only nodded.
