Janie called the class to order as she took role call. She paused for a minute and had a flash back from when she was still a student, not a teacher. But, when Ms. Appleton had to leave because she was expecting, thirteen-year-old Belle had no choice but to step in.
"Roy Billson," Belle yelled as she clapped her hands together.
"Present," little Roy returned.
Belle finished calling attendance and began to start addition with the youngest classes.
"Everyone," Belle began, "until I get to your grade, practice writing sentences with correct punctuation. I want to see exclamatory and declaratives."
As the students began to work, Belle went from one grade to the other with math. Then she stood at the front of the board and began to instruct the students with language. After explaining exclamatory's for the third time, she gave homework to each student and sat down in her desk.
"Ms. Honey I brought you an apple today," came a feeble voice from the front of the desk.
Belle took the apple and plastered a smile to her face.
