I was fourteen. Sammie was sixteen, Mattie was seven, an' Rick was three. It was us four, Ma an' Pa in our house at the edge o' town. I used te curse livin' so far from everything. It saved my life that day.
Pa'd been in town, an' he'd taken Sammie an' Rick with 'im. While in there, town got hit by Reavers. None survived.
Me, Ma an' Mattie'd gotten underground in time. When we emerged, the town had been razed.
