A/N: The sixth in the series!! I hope you're all enjoying them! Thankfully my bout of writer's block has passed and many more stories are to come! Three cheers for my beta reader, Smackalicious!
They had been in the middle of their move when the lights flickered out and the screen went blank. Kate had been almost asleep, but the sudden change made her start, just in time to save the ice cream she had been about to drop. She felt Tony shift on the couch. She was laying half on top of, and half beside, him. She stood gingerly, trying not to run into anything, and helped him to his feet.
"Power's out," he said. "I'm surprised you noticed." She laughed.
"I'm a light sleeper," she told him. "I'll go get some candles and you go find the matches. Should be in the top drawer in the kitchen." After she found the candles, she began to place them around the apartment, Tony following behind her and lighting each one as they went.
In no time the whole apartment was filled with soothing candlelight. Kate pulled out a deck of cards, and together they sat on the floor, playing lazily.
"Uno," Kate said, stifling a yawn.
"You cheated," he complained as she went out on her next turn.
"It's Uno, Tony. How could I cheat?" she asked.
"I dunno, but I'm not winning," he protested childishly. Kate shook her head in disbelief, but suddenly she got an idea.
"You wanna know my secret?" she asked, leaning forward. He nodded and she got right up next to him.
"I'm just better than you," she whispered in his ear. Before he could protest, she kissed him. It was only their second kiss, because they felt no obligation to kiss. Their relationship just wasn't dependent on it. Why kiss when a hug would work just as well? It wasn't as thought they needed to prove how much they cared, they both already knew. Still, Kate had almost forgotten how nice it was, kissing Tony. The truth was that he was plain good at it. After a couple of moments had passed, they broke apart.
It didn't matter that they were sitting in semi-darkness. Smile Number 50 had lit up the room.
