A/N: Hey guys! I know I still have Lift Me Up incomplete, but I kind of didn't have time as finals and graduation kept getting closer. And then she-who-shall-not-be-named revealed her trashiness so I lost some motivation to write anything positive about her. But this is my way of getting back on the horse. This series is just going to be quick little one shots based on a word starting with the letters A-Z provided to me by my twitter followers. This first chapter is very short, but most will be much longer. No promises on how frequently I'll update, but I promise to do my best!
This first one was a little different than what I'm used to (because I am a Lyatt shipper through and through so I mostly write—and think and read and fangirl—about them). It's something that has been running through my mind ever since we found out that Carol and Henry met before Lucy was born. Very short fic.
Affair:
She didn't want to do this. She was in love with Henry. But her family made it clear. If she wanted to marry Henry, a man so far from the ideal Rittenhouse husband, she had to produce a pureblood child. They were very insistent that she couldn't allow David Rittenhouse's bloodline die out.
So here she was, hoping like hell that her first time with this Benjamin person would be enough to get the job done, so to speak.
Her parents had set up a nice date for them—as if that's going to help her feel less like she's being whored out—they got reservations at a nice restaurant and made long-term reservations at a fancy hotel in the area.
Carol felt sick for betraying Henry like this, and she could only hope that this child she was supposed to produce would never be put into a situation like this one. That this child could just happily fall in love with someone within the organization. Yes, that was it. She couldn't escape this now, but maybe her child could. She could keep them in the dark for as long as possible and allow them to make their own choices regarding love and life. Within Rittenhouse's needs, of course. But Carol was certain she would be able to convince her offspring that they wanted the same things Carol did.
And so her decision was made. She would agree to the terms set out by Rittenhouse.
This wasn't an affair.
An affair implies feelings and desire.
This was simply a business deal. An exchange where both parties got what they wanted.
Carol got to marry the love of her life, and Rittenhouse got their precious pureblood heir. But just because they decided there would be one didn't mean that they had any say in how that child was raised and the kind of person they would become. Carol swore to raise a good person who would want to join Rittenhouse for more than bloodline. They would join Rittenhouse because they saw that it was the right thing to do.
