Waiting

disclaimer: don't own. If I did, I would be writing this because I was toying with your brain not because I had nothing better to do.

Pairing: House/Amber

He had stood outside, waiting in the shadows where no one could see him. Waiting for Wilson to leave so that he would get a chance to say goodbye without him knowing. He could see her through the glass. She looked so different. There was none of her usual confidence. He supposes dying does that to you. She still looked beautiful though, and he hated himself for thinking that, but it was true. He debated just going in and telling Wilson to get out, but he knew she would hate him for it for the last few hours of her life. He didn't want that. He knew he had to keep it a secret, she had insisted on that. What happened those nights when Wilson was working never left the apartment. It only happened when they were sure Wilson was busy, and he had found himself wishing that it had happened more often. He liked waking up in the middle of the night holding her.

Finally Wilson left the room. He knew he only had a few minutes before he came back so he limped as fast as he could into her room.

She looked over at him when he entered.

"House" she said

"Amber" he said moving over to the bed.

"Just so you know, I don't blame you for this." She smiled. He had seen her smile more since she found out she was dying then he ever had before.

"I know, I just wanted to say" he paused. He had no clue what he wanted to say. "That I'm going to miss you."

She smiled again. "I'll miss you too. Are you ever going to tell Wilson?"

"Does he need to know?"

She shrugged. "It's up to you; I think he has a right to know. But I don't want to see him get hurt"

"He loves you"

"I just wish I could have loved him back."

"You seam happy when you're with him"

"He hasn't seen the smile I get when I'm with you"

"Me?"

"Yes you. Do you see any other misanthropist bastards around here?"

"Me?" he asks again unconsciously playing with her hair.

"House. Look at me" he reluctantly turned his head towards her.

"I love you. I just want you to know that before I go"

"I love you too" he says, his voice barely more than a whisper.

He can hear Wilson slowly coming back.

"Goodbye" he whisper and kiss her.

"Goodbye" she whispers as she breaks the kiss. And he leaves the room seconds before Wilson comes back in.
