There's a blue moon out tonight

No, I don't see it, but I feel its light

Come pouring through the clouds

You left above my head

-Steve Holy, Blue Moon

"Mike…"

Carolyn Barek sat on the front steps leading to her home, her eyes stinging and her arms wrapped around her legs. His funeral had been today, attended by dozens of officers and even more people he had touched in some form or another. It was an impressive turnout, but it had not mattered to Carolyn.

Mike was gone.

She tightened her arms around her legs and buried her face in her knees.

It was just a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. A holdup went wrong and in a moment, Mike Logan was snatched from her life forever. No hope for recovery, no hope for those words she had kept in her heart for so long to be spoken.

No time at all.

She let out a choked sob and clung more tightly to herself as wave after wave of grief washed over her, enveloping her in darkness and pain.

She would never see his face again.

She would never hear him laugh.

She would never feel his touch in the darkest moments before dawn.

She would never hold him again and know without a doubt that she loved him more than the next breath she took.

His heart-stopping smile would never grace her again.

"Oh, God, Mike…" she whispered, closing her eyes tightly and shuddering. "I miss you…"

She would miss him every day, for as long as she lived.

How could she not?

"I love you, Mike."

There's a blue moon out tonight

No misconceptions, no I know it's right

Cause I've never been so blue

In all of my life
