A steady thump-thump-thump reverberated around the room. Regina's eyes grew wide, almost as wide as Robin's smile.

"Well would you listen to that," he said before kissing her forehead softly. Regina felt as if her heart were beating as fast as their tiny child's. So very small that even with the technological marvel that was the ultrasound machine, all she could make out on the screen was a blob that resembled a large kidney bean more than a baby.

"Congratulations," said Dr. Whale as he used the machine to snap several pictures they could take with them. "Everything looks good."

Regina just smiled and continued to stare at the screen. Over her, Robin and the doctor shared a look.

"It appears that Madame Mayor is speechless," Whale said with levity. Robin chuckled, waiting for a witty retort from Regina that never came.

"That must be a first," he replied. It was just one of many firsts to come for the both of them.
