What Could Have Been
You were the bright young flower,The rising star.
How could you have willingly fallen so far?
He was no match for you,
Unequal to your beauty, your mind,
Your kindness, your love.
Why did you tie your fate to his?
Why did I push you away?
Until that day, you could have been mine.
Mine to admire.
Mine to touch, love, wonder.
Mine to protect.
I could have protected you.
What man, husband, father
So willingly endangers his family?
You would be alive to care for your child.
To raise our child.
He's your son, and I can't bear to look at him.
