She watches the leaves fall. She loves this time of year, when the world is many shades of oranges, reds, yellows. Sometimes there is still some green or a hint of purple on the leaves. She presses her face up against the glass to see the leaves better. The wind has picked up and is blowing them around. Minutes later she is jumping around trying to catch them. Tomorrow she will help make candy apples and other fall treats. Then it will be Halloween a few weeks after that. Halloween is a big holiday for her family. It always has been. They play games and run around. Mum didn't make them have their lessons and didn't make them do their chores either. But she didn't trick -or- treat. No, she sat with her family around the fire and they drank apple cider and ate Mum's good cooking. The boys would go out though. They always tried to scare people. They normally succeeded. She never told Mum because she didn't want to get then in trouble. This year would be different. All of her brothers were now at school or overseas. Next year she would go to school too. The girl smiled, yes, autumn is her favorite time of year.
