In episode 25 of the anime Light meets L on top of the headquarters. They have a short conversation.

It was raining heavily outside. A lone figure walked down the corridor.
Soon L. Soon I will be the God of a new world ruled by the justice of Kira. It won't be long now. Rem will never let Misa spend the rest of her days behind bars. I have won.
Light was broken out of his reverie by the sound of the falling rain.
I wonder where L has got to.
Light turned around the corner and there he was.
Why is he standing in the rain? That idiot. Doesn't matter it won't be long now, soon I won't have to deal you anymore. The path will be clear and I will ascend to the my rightful position. For now though I need you to go back to the headquarters.
"What are you doing here Ryuzaki?"
He doesn't hear me. I repeat myself. L lifts his hand and gestures to his ear.
Is he taunting me?
I don't want to break cover but I guess I have no choice.
