One shot of the Hermione that didn't fall in love with Ron. And Harry with no Ginny, just for plot's sake.

"Look at me, Harry!" she cried. "No one loves me. Not even him!"

Harry tried to hide it, but now that Ron had given up her...

"And he knew me best! Better than anyone and he still gave me up."

Harry again bit his tongue. I know you better.

She turned and looked at him in tears. "What am I supposed to do now, Harry?"

He knew that she needed time out of a relationship like someone needs to grieve, but he couldn't help it. He had to say something.

"Hermione, you're a smart witch, you can live your life without some dolt of a bloke holding your hand."

There, he said something. But that was the wrong something and she went off on the indelicacies of living with a man, eating with him, sleeping with him, and always being around him. Harry was the opposite. Anytime she needed a talk he would drop what he was doing, be it food, sleep, or work. His face would come out of her fireplace and she would vent. Until she had raised the courage to break away from Ron, Harry talked with her about her insecurities she hid from him, the things that he said that hurt her, and anything she wanted to say to him that she just couldn't.

"Thanks, Harry. You're such a good friend."

Harry stood up from his cozy spot on the white sofa and hugged her. She hugged back, getting tears on his sweater. She stepped back and wiped her eyes with baggy knit sleeves.

"I know I haven't been any fun to be around lately, but let's change that. Do you want to go to Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour? I know it hasn't been the same since the war, but I want to get out of here"

"Yeah, lets go get ice cream." he said.

And they both lived happily ever after. Except Ron who was a dufus and Ginny who we pretended didn't exist.

I just wanted to get that out there because a local ice cream store got closed down in my town, but someone brought it back, so its fan-reality-fiction, if you care. I'm also addicted to ice cream, so it's a big deal.

-errant thought, but how unoriginal is it to name a ginger girl Ginny? No offense to JK Rowling.
