I just love Dean Cain and Teri Hatcher's portrayal of the love story of Lois and Clark. I hope I can do them justice in this story.
Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman doesn't belong to me.
Reading Between the Lines.
As Lois and Clark left The Daily Planet after Barbara Trevino's arrest, Clark could see that Lois was really excited about something.
"Are you sure that nothing happened after I was gone?" Clark asked her.
"Absolutely nothing, it was a normal day at The Planet," Lois replied, tongue-in-cheek.
"Let's get some take-out," Clark suggested, "to celebrate."
"Celebrate what?" she asked him.
"Barbara Trevino's arrest for one, and the fact that no one's trying to kill you, right now." Clark replied.
"Okay," she said.
She drove to his place without asking him and pretty soon they were seated on his couch watching It Happened One Night, eating Chinese.
"Lois, what is it?"Clark asked her, "You seem excited about something." She'd had a small smile playing on her lips all night and she wasn't even concentrating on the film.
"Nothing," she replied.
"It's not nothing," he said, "there's an air of excitement about you."
"I can trust you, right?"
"Do honestly need to ask me that?" he asked her, hurt.
"Promise me you won't laugh," Lois told him.
"I promise."
"Superman came to see me the other night," she said. Clark nodded there was nothing unusual in that and he remembered that visit quite well.
"That's what's exciting you?" he asked her when she didn't say a thing. "I thought he visited you a lot." Clark couldn't help how jealous he felt when she talked about his alter-ego. Her voice changed, became dreamy.
"He told me something."
"Really?"
"Yes, something unexpected, something beyond my wildest dreams."
"What?" Clark asked, trying to remember exactly what he had said to her, he didn't remember saying anything unusual, certainly nothing to excite a woman like Lois. He had been professional, or so he hoped. 'I hope I didn't do anything to encourage her,' he thought.
Lois didn't say a thing, she just smiled, dreamily. She was lost in the memory.
"What did he say?" Clark asked again.
"Oh, Clark," Lois said, "he reads my work. Every time, he said."
"That's what exciting you? The fact that Superman reads your work?"
"Can you imagine Superman, with all his work and his busy schedule, all the things he has to do, finding time to read every word I write?"
Clark couldn't help it, he laughed softly.
"Clark, don't be jealous, he does read your work too, when we share a by-line."
Clark couldn't help himself; he pulled his partner into his arms. As long as he lived he didn't think he'd ever be able to figure her out completely, she'd always find a way to surprise him.
