I have never felt the pain of loss
Unless you count the forgotten memories
But I can relive them any time
The people in them are still here
I have never been tempted to take power
I never wanted more than what was mine
I have always thought that true happiness
Could not lie in mere possession
I have brought gifts to the rulers of the lands
I have packed splendour to deliver it
I have travelled miles with tokens of beauty
Never have I set out to destroy it
This burden could be too much to carry
This strain could ensnare my very soul
But if I will not, for what else shall I live?
Will anyone live?
"You have my bow."

Disclaimer: I don't think I really used anything here that belongs to
anyone. But for what it's worth: All characters, places etc. etc. belong to
the estate of the late J.R.R. Tolkien, may his name be remembered by all. I
did not receive any payment for this and have only published it for myself
and others to enjoy freely.

And for anyone who can't see the obvious: the text above is my version of
the thoughts of a certain Elf on a certain counsel right before a certain
quest.
