AN: Well, this was supposed to be a fluffy L/Light fic, where Light has nightmares, and L attempts to comfort him. And look where it went.

The dream came almost every night now, as it had since his confinement. Light barely slept, and would awake gasping with fear, filled with nightmarish illusions. The dream was the same every night. A dark world in which he was Kira. The faces of those he loved twisted accusingly, their whispers,

"He is Kira."

"That boy is Kira."

"Light Yagami is Kira."

"Punish him."

And then Light would run, through the fear, and would turn, and suddenly, Kira was the only way out. Light Yagami became Kira. He watched the criminals die, knowing that he had killed them. And felt nothing but satisfaction. He watched red blood mix with the darkness, his family's blood, the task force's. And he felt nothing. Ryuuzaki, dead. Ryuuzaki, who infuriated him now, but Light would never kill him, would he?

And Misa, his girlfriend, who he could only remember never loving. She was a killer too.

And Light would wake up and open his eyes before his own death: sometimes chased by his father or people with guns, even suicide, once. And he would sit up in bed, and the handcuffs connecting him to Ryuzaki would jingle and rattle, and the heaviness of his wrist would remind him that his nightmares were, in part, true. And sometimes, if Light made any noise while waking, Ryuzaki would sit up and stare at him with eyes rimmed with shadows, and inquire, "Did Light-kun have a bad dream again?"

And Light would attempt to deny it, tiredly and shakily. Ryuzaki would reply, "Light-kun, nightmares can be a sign of suppressed guilt. I'm sure that Kira wouldn't sleep easily."

And Light would begin to think of himself as Kira, during some nights when the dreams were particularly bad. After all, it was only logical.
