Nina sat on a enormous rock; or rather a small boulder; with her back on an old oak tree. Her shoulders drooped and her face was puffy. Staring down at the dirt she used a stick to draw aimlessly.
"Trudy told me to find you and give you these."
Nina jerked her head up and her hand flew up to cover her face. A few seconds later she opened her fingers to peek through.
"What do you want Jerome? Haven't you done enough?"
Jerome gave her a small smile and held out the tray of chocolate chip cookies. Nina stared at them with an eyebrows raised and then at Jerome.
"Come on they're non-toxic."
To prove his point he took a cookie and put it in his mouth. Nina giggled at the way his cheeks bulged.
"You look like a chipmunk."
"Woll you goin to wook lik this too."
Nina couldn't stop laughing at the way he looked and talked. The more he tried to swallow the food the harder she laughed. It got so bad that she fell off the rock and onto the ground and got the hiccups.
"What *hic* di*hic*d you say?"
"I said, well you're going to look like this too."
Nina sat up with her eyebrows furrowed.
"How am I...?"
Nina wasn't able to finish her question because Jerome grabbed a cookie and popped it in her mouth.
"Now you're a pretty chipmunk."
Nina was flabbergasted. Did Jerome just call her pretty? That thought vanished as she realized Jerome was laughing at her. She tried to swallow the food but she kept wanting to laugh. She swallowed about half of it before she actually laughed. A few seconds after she started laughing she started choking. Jerome dropped the tray ,on Nina, and started to pound her on the back. Once she started breathing again he let her go and looked at her face.
"I think you snapped my spinal cord."
"Sorry."
Nina smiled at him but when he caught her eye she blushed and looked down. Jerome lifted her chin and slolwy leand in giving Nina enough time to pull away. Instead she also leaned in. The second their lips touched sparks flew. The kiss was slow and bubbling with passion. When they finally pulled apart Nina put her head on his chest and wound her arms around his chest.
"Nina I'm sorry for the way I acted today."
"It's okay."
"No It's not I was being a comlete jerk."
"Jerome it's okay I get it."
Jerome sigh and pulled her closer, they stayed that way until Trudy sent the other kids to search for them. Who knew chocolate chip cookies could change a persons life forever.
