Chapter One
"Claurice! Wake up! We're going to be late for church." said Elena, Claurice's older sister.
"Five more minutes," said Claurice lazily.
"No, get up now!" said Elena.
"All right, all right. I'm coming."
It was 9:30 A.M., and it was time got Claurice to go to church. When she got downstairs, her mother and father were waiting for her.
"Where's Elena?" asked Mrs. Neam.
"Restroom," said Claurice.
A few minutes later, Claurice and her family were on their way to church. "All right everyone," said Mr. Neam, " Do not forget to smile to the new Priest, all right? I've heard some stories about this guy and they are pretty strange. So that means best behavior, got it?" "Yeah." said Claurice and Elena.
Later on, the family was seated on the chairs at the church. The new priest was a bald guy in black robes. He had a black hat in his hand, and a briefcase in the other. "Greetings fellow people," said the priest, "My name is Jonathan Benedict. I am the new priest here at the Church of London. Let us start off by bowing our heads in respect for the death of Priest Arnold." Everyone bowed their heads in respect. And the rest of the church ordeal occurred, and everyone got up to leave.
On her way out, Claurice head 2 kids about her age talking about an annual digging contest. Ever since she was a little girl, she had always wanted to be in a digging contest, because she loved to dig.
"Excuse me," said Claurice, "I couldn't help overhearing, but where do I get these forms for this competition?"
"Right over their by the water jug," said one of the boys.
"Thanks!" and she ran to get the forms.
