Where has the World Gone?

Captain America, aka Steve Rogers, was in uniform, helmet down, standing at a podium in front of hundreds, maybe thousands, of people; all reporters, officials, or family members and friends. To Steve's right were the other Avengers, acting as his moral support.

"Good morning," Steve said, efficiently ending the chatter.

"Seven days ago, April 29th, at 8 am, a gunman walked into La Salle, a Catholic High school in Cincinnati, Ohio. He hadn't killed nor injured anyone but himself in the assault but he traumatized many with the fear he invoked.

Just 14 days before that, in Cambridge, two died and another was injured, campus law enforcement with families of their own.

Near 5 months ago, 20 children with lives ahead of them were killed in cold blood along with their teachers and staff. Two injured. The gunman killed himself before justice could be made…

In the 40s, my time, it was taboo to show your child, any child, a firearm, or to talk to them about the war. Hit one kid and any woman in the area would beat you purple with her purse.

Those who would do this, explain it to me! Explain to me why you would end the live of someone who has so much ahead of them or who has someone waiting on them at home? What makes it right to kill your own kind, human beings who feel what you feel?

Race? Color? Religion? I can see that back in my time but now?

My friend Tony had told me that the world has changed, that times were better since the war. The different and the outcast were accepted, that everyone was equal. Many have said this! Thus far I have seen nothing to prove this…

Just the other day, I had to stop a fight between and young boy and a football player, that's just ridiculous. Saw a seven year old stab another with his pencil then run. I've seen the world's supposed 'greatest invention' pull teens off the computer and kill them… I even heard that spouses beat and kill their other in marriage.

So who doesn't understand? Me, or you?...

Today is May 6th. To any who hear my voice, this is a day of freedom. A day where there is no pain, where every tear will be wiped away. A day where no one will die…

A day where everyone cares.

Thank you."

The clapping could be heard for miles.
