Clarisse La Rue was a very unhappy eight year old girl. She had ADHD and dyslexia, so she didn't do well in school. The only class she did well in was history, where they were learning about ancient Greece. She got funny looks when she translated ancient Greek almost perfectly, and no one believed that she saw monsters. She also didn't have many friends, but not because she couldn't make them. She was afraid they would leave her, like her mom said her father had.

Another reason people didn't like her was because she was mean. She was known to pick fights (not that it was a problem for her, she always won), and she made sure that everyone thought she was afraid of nothing, and no one.

Well one day Clarisse was at home and heard voices down stairs and so she went to see what was going on. When she peaked around the wall separating the hall and the living room the conversation stopped. Her mother smiled and said "Darling come here and meet your father." The man that was facing her mother turned around and looked at the young girl. He squatted down and said "Come here kid." Clarisse walked over cautiously. "Here, happy fist, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth birthday." he said while handing her a camo bandanna. "Um...thanks." she muttered as she tied it around her matted brown pony tail."Now kid..ever been to summer camp?"
