A/N: So this is the beginning of a writing experiment. I'm calling it 100 Prompts of Potter. Basically I'll have 100 individual one shots by the end based on prompts from this : http:/ forum (dot) fanfiction (dot) net (slash) topic (slash) 44309 (slash) 31853827 (slash) 1 (slash). Instead of using 30 words or less, they'll all be varying lengths. I'll publish them when I can, but all as individual stories full of various pairings/friendships/characters. There will be cannon & AU, it's all variety. It's just a way for me to look at Harry Potter in a different light. So here is the first! I hope you enjoy.

'waves of reality'

prompt one: reality check

harry potter & draco malfoy

Harry Potter could hardly recall a more stressful day in his entire life, and that included the days he spent hunting down the Horcruxes. To be perfectly honest, he felt that hunting down bits of Voldemort's soul would be preferable to the task at hand that awaited him on this day of all days. It was literally every father's nightmare.

When Lily Luna had come home four years before, blushing about some boy that she had started seeing at Hogwarts the last person that Harry would have ever had in mind was Scorpius Malfoy. He supposed, looking back, that it was inevitable, because Albus and Scorpius had been best friends since Al's sorting into Slytherin all those years ago.

Of course, it was slightly worrisome that his fifteen year old ball of fiery woman was probably doing things in dark hallways with Malfoy's kid that gave Harry the shudders any time he paused too long to think about it. Lily was happy though, because not just anyone could handle her rather, er, headstrong personality.

Scorpius, contrary to popular belief, was a really nice bloke, who genuinely loved his daughter. The problem seemed to lie with his parents. Harry was sure that this was Draco's greatest fear, his son would be helping to continue the Potter genes. Draco, however, said nothing negative about the union, though the vain in his temple seemed to pop more than usual during the wedding organization.

"Potter." Draco said in a curt greeting as he appeared on the front steps of church where Lily and Scorpius had decided to unite for life. Harry noticed Draco's stiff posture, but also a small glint in his eye that seemed to be fearful.

"Malfoy. Nice to have you here." He spoke, and meant it. Draco, on the other hand, didn't seem to think Harry was being completely sincere.

"Yes, I'm sure I am exactly who people want at their celebrations. An ex-Death Eater." He spat, bitterness lacing every word that fell from his lips as he subconsciously grabbed the middle of his left forearm as if it burned him.

Harry just watched the man standing before him in pity. Draco had had a terrible upbringing and as a result had made decisions that weren't wise. However, Harry would never forget that it was Draco's mother who brought about the fall of Voldemort. It was she that saved Harry's life.

"Draco," Harry began, "what happened all those years ago, doesn't matter anymore." He sighed, rubbing his eyes, "This is a different world, a different era. You are most certainly accepted here, and into my family." Harry spoke gently and in a slow manner. Draco's posture slackened a little and as he went to pass the Boy Who Lived, Harry could've sworn he heard a whisper:

"Thank you."
