What's In A Name?

The Sawyer-name had proved its worth. He'd used it to get what he'd wanted since his parents' funeral. After many long cons, jail-time, and in-depth research — plus however long he'd been on this damn island — now that he had what he'd wanted for more than half his lifetime the name just didn't apply anymore.
Yet there was something about vengeance that stuck like a blood-stain that just won't wash out. No matter what name he chose, no matter what good deeds he accomplished, no matter how many people he loved and loved him back; there would forever be that black mark on his soul.
His name was James. James Ford. He was courageous — in that half-hearted way of not looking suicidal — and he had managed to forge a few tried and true friendships with people within a matter of months. James knew he was lucky; not just to have survived the plane crash or even the many attempts on his life afterwards, but to have found a group of people who had faith in him.
And that's why he couldn't be Sawyer anymore. That guy was dead; literally. The slate was clean again. He could start anew. It was time to prove that he was worthy of others' trust and forgiveness. James was ready to be the best man he could be.
