Kali sighed as she watched the sun fall and disappear into the rising shadows.
From her perch in the elm tree, she had it watched grow since it was only a sapling, she could see for miles in every direction.
It was one of her favorite spots to be alone.
It had only been three hundred years since the day of her birth, and already she was beginning to tire of the endless days and nights that promised her life for eternity.
And she could not figure out why.
She most certainly did not have any reason to complain. Her life was painstakingly perfect. Anything and everything she had ever wanted had always been given to her. Her family, and the now growing Guard, had always done everything in their power to please her… But something was missing. A spot in her chest, in her heart, in her soul remained empty. Aching with want, need, for something it didn't yet have.
Oh, if only she could be as content as her twin, Amara. She was always so happy, finding joy in every aspect of her life.
Where as Kali, was much less complacent.
She had toyed around with the idea of ending her own life, but never for very long. For fear her Father, Aro, would pick up on it on the next occasion where he read her thoughts.
As far as he and everyone else knew Kali was completely at ease and satisfied with her existence.
If only they knew…
