Kaien Nakamura was sitting on the windowsill in his room of the 7th division. It was 2 in the morning and he couldn't sleep. His thoughts went to the past and of his control of the element of ice.
He opened his hand and formed an iris of ice. It made him smile, for it reminded him of when he and his twin brother, Kentori, first met Sajin.
They grew up in one of the most violent districts of Rukongai, the 77th district. He still could remember his parents. His fathers laugh and his mother's smile. He could remember the love and support from his parents. Then one night, when they were around 7, their whole lives change in an instant.
Their home was attacked by bandits and their mother told them to run. They ran like demons were after them and hid for awhile. When they got back, their home was in flames and their parents' corpses. After that, they headed north to Seretei, hoping to find better homes.
When they were almost there, they went into an abandoned house and spend the night. Kaien then started dreaming he was in an ocean of ice and the sky was dark. He turned around and saw an anthro-morphic fox walking towards him. It had white fur and was in a dark blue haori. He noticed it was grinning and just kept walking closer to him. When the fox was about to say something, he woke up. That's when he noticed the room was very cold.
He tried to move, but couldn't. He looked around and noticed that the room was completely covered in ice; as was himself and Kentori. He tried to wake Kentori up, but noticed that Kentori was very still and his lips were blue. The last thing he remembered before he blacked out was hearing the door open and auburn fur.
He later woke up in the 4th division and saw Captain Unohana. She explained to him that the 7th division captain, Sajin Komamura, found him and his brother and brought them here. She also said that they both had hyperthermia and with Kentori, it was more severe. It took them about a week to be fully recovered and Kaien learned that Kentori almost died from the severe cold. It was years later that the he found out that the ice was due to Kaien's overflowing reiatsu and that he almost killed his brother. To this day, Kaien still has nightmares that he killed Kentori.
Around that time, they met Komamura and he told them about where he found them. He also asked where their parents were. The silence immediately answered him. He said that they could stay with him in his home and a month later, Komamura has adopted Kaien and Kentori as his sons.
Years have passed and many things have happened. He and Kentori became officers of the Gotei 13; they met the loves of their lives and have many nakama. Kaien again looked at he ice flower he created and smiles.
He knows as long he stayed as member of the 7th division, the ice iris will never melt.
