"P-please," he said, chin quivering slightly. "I... I can't jus' lose magic. It-it means ev'rthing to me..."
The Ministry official sighed. He really hated this job. Crushing the hearts of witches and wizards- usually kids- takes a lot out of you.
"Look, son... I have no choice. You're lucky you haven't been thrown in Azkaban as it is," he said gently.
The half-giant rubbed away the tears coming from the corner of his eyes.
"I know. It's jus'..."
The man reached up and gently put a hand on the teen's shoulder.
"Wand, please."
Rubeus Hagrid, recently expelled student from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, reluctantly handed over his wand- His beautiful wand- the thing that had changed his life...
The official gave him a final, pitying look, before pointing his own wand at the boy's.
"Reducto."
Rubeus finally allowed his tears to fall, a few splashing down upon the head of the significantly shorter man. The official watched him pick up the remains of his wand, fighting back tears of his own. He always tended to get emotional when it was the sweet kids. Somehow, sweet kids ended up in trouble, and he had to break their wands...
Not today.
The man aimed his wand at the broken pieces, his mind whirling with ideas. He had been an ace at charms back in his school days, this shouldn't be too difficult. He finally assembled a feasible plan, and began muttering rapidfire spells under his breath.
Rubeus dropped the shattered wand in surprise as the pieces came together, reforming and reshaping into something new.
The official smiled, exhilarated, while he continued his quick casting. Putting the pieces of a broken wand back together so it would work again was a tricky bit of spellwork, but he had figured it out.
A couple more alterations... Gotta make it inconspicuous...
He laughed at the confused expression on the youth's broad face, and tucked away his own wand, stooping and retrieving his new creation.
"If I did this right, this should work just like a wand. It won't respond nearly as well, of course, but it should be enough to get by."
Rubeus took the pink umbrella, awe striking his features as he turned it over in his oversized hands.
"Thank ye..." he whispered, eyes welling up with tears.
