Perspective
Everyone says that Ryuzaki Sakuno was lucky to land a boyfriend like Echizen Ryoma, that she caught his attention from the fact that her grandmother is the coach of the Seigaku Middle School tennis club, or that she just had perfect timing. By most people, nearly every aspect of Ryuzaki Sakuno is described as alright.
Okay.
Average.
Ordinary.
Plain.
Her tennis? She's okay, considering she won 3rd place in a girl's division tournament. She hits the ball over the net and gets points... that's basically what tennis is, right? Who could say she's bad at it?
Her brains? Eh. She passes all her courses, pays attention in class. Nothing exceptional.
Her cooking? Alright. Bento boxes containing meat & rice; pretty standard.
Her personality? Barley anyone knows, she's shy and only really speaks to Tomoka or Echizen. She's modest, polite, quiet, and trips like every ten minutes. She's... ordinary.
Her looks? Plain. Long hair tied into traditional braids, average height, average chest, and a smile that's really not that special. Look at her for more than two seconds, and you'll get bored.
But Echizen Ryoma is not most people.
Her tennis? Mada mada dane. Form is sloppy, still has wobbly hips, and can't return a strong smash if her life depended on it. A lot of people disagree with this, but Ryoma's standards are especially high for what makes a skilled or unskilled tennis player. He won't lower his expectations for anyone, even if it's Ryuzaki. Something she appreciated.
Her brains? Have you seen this girl's essays for English?! She doesn't even know the difference between they're, there, and their! It drives Ryoma crazy when he proofreads her work. The only reason this girl is passing English in the first place was because of him!
Her personality? Timid, polite, clumsy... all the characteristics that make it that much more fun to tease her. But... she was also caring and thoughtful; the look of worry on her face when she thinks Ryoma is in any kind of trouble is priceless. He knew only he could make her make that face; he knew it and he liked it.
Her cooking? Amazing. She would always ask him the day before what he would like to eat, so everyday he would get spoiled with a lunch specifically suited for his taste. It's lovely.
Her looks? Gorgeous. Seeing her give it her all during tennis practices and matches is stunning. Sweat dripping down her forehead with glistening eyes, and a grin so wide indicating she got the point she worked so hard for. Those little details were beautiful. (Though he wouldn't mind some inches off the hair)
Whoever thinks that Ryuzaki Sakuno was lucky to land a boyfriend like Echizen Ryoma was dead wrong.
He was lucky to land her.
FIN
It's been a while, huh?
