Scream

Summary: Raito used to scream around L whenever they were in their bedroom, and in private, and L never understood why… until now.
Disclaimer: I do not own Death Note.

If there was one thing that L could never understand vehemently is why Raito would scream at the mere sight of him in the bedroom, throwing himself back and dragging L along with him- trying to huddle against the wall and pretend that he's not there.

L never understood why.

Downstairs, with the task force, Raito was okay; Raito was normal- he wouldn't freak out, he wouldn't panic, he wouldn't have a breakdown; but in private, Raito was an entirely different person.

Scared, he would always be scared of L- begging and pleading him to leave him alone and not to kill him.

L could still not rationalize what Raito was talking about, but he would soothe him with saying that he didn't believe he was Kira.

That made him panic even more.

All he knew was that he would always seem to scare Raito- and he had no idea why, he honestly had no idea why. Not one bit and he had gotten used to listening to Raito scream at the mere sight of him now.

He had gotten used to seeing Raito an emotional mess.

He had gotten used to seeing Raito a broken vase.

So it was quite a surprise when a few days after Raito was released that he wasn't downstairs with the rest of the task force.

He found it a bit sad that he was informed by Matsuda that Raito had gone to the roof of the HQ, despite the fact that there was a terrible storm outside for some reason.

He had gone upstairs, up-up, up, until he was at the roof, seeing Raito's limp figure in the running, arms wrapped around his own body as he was soaked completely to the bone, his shivering apparent and a lot and L shuffled over to him- and Raito must have sensed his presence because the boy turned his head over to L, eyes looking depressed as he stared on at him.

"You're here to collect my soul, aren't you?" Raito said, and L's brow furrowed, "No, I'm not. Why do you say that?" Raito looked away, eyes staring up at the sky though rain drops where patting down unto his face roughly, "You look like their King; even act like him too. I've seen him, you know." "Whose King are you speaking of?"

Raito was silent, his hands turning into claws as he wondered forward, L in his position as he stood back and watched Raito's silhouette, "The Shinigami King… You're the Shinigami King, and you already know who I am."

Raito turned his eyes over to L, and L was pretty sure that Raito had gone mad. "Is that why you screamed at me? Because you thought I was here to kill you?"

Raito whipped his head back towards L, before looking forward again- outstretching his arms, "I am Kira- and for the Shinigami King… I die."

And before L could ever comprehend what had happened…

Raito jumped.
